The answer is perhaps, but for how much longer!
If you live in one of the Strathmore Towers, you most likely have a combined heating and cooling system like the one here. Any heating or cooling system requires maintenance, and the necessary repairs to keep them going. But at one point, it makes good financial sense to replace the entire system if the repair costs become excessive.
Unfortunately, these systems are somewhat unique, as I found out after thousands of dollars of repairs after I first purchased my condo. I was told by more than one heating & cooling company that the original manufacturer of the unit, Chrysler Corporation, no longer was in business and so these units were no longer available. My only choice: keep repairing as best as possible! :-(
Disappointed but prepared to do some research, I eventually found a contractor who was able to get me the exact replica of the system and install it. The unit was not cheap and I had to wait several months, but at least I had some peace of mind knowing that it was a new system, not one that was 40+ years old and therefore less likely to let me down during the bitter winter cold or the excessive summer heat.
I heard from a number of owners experiencing concerns, similar to what I had experienced, over their heating/ac units.
So on April 16, 2014, the contractor who installed my unit, Furnace Factory Direct, did a presentation to the Tower ''A'' coffee club on how they can help interested owners with maintenance and/or installation of replacement units.
The owners of Furnace Factory Direct, Tom Kingdom and Carmine Mariano explained that they located an American supplier and are working on getting a special price if they get an order together for a number of heating/ac units.
In the interim, they are offering a pre-scheduled heating/ac 22-point maintenance service at a reduced rate. Anyone wanting more information can contact Carmine directly at 613-262-5550.
